As most of you know, I used to write for the Jersey Journal, which closed down last February. I started this SubStack for two reasons: First, I wanted to keep writing, and especially keep covering original music from Hudson County. And secondly, I was hoping subscriptions would replace some of the income I lost from the Journal.
The SubStack has been more successful than I ever expected in terms of reaching my target audience. It’s inspired me to write more than I have in decades and I am truly enjoying it. But most subscribers choose the free option. I understand it, I do the same thing with most of the SubStacks I follow.
So I thought, as an incentive, I would do a Patreon-type thing and offer some perks if you can pop for a subscription. For an annual subscription of $80 or more, I will help you or your band write a bio or a one-sheet press release, or tweak what you already have. I can also offer my services as an editor (I’m currently helping a friend writing his memoir).
For monthly subscribers, I’m going to start doing a podcast, playing some of the music I’ve been writing about, as well as interviews with local scenemakers. I’m also open to suggestions or requests.
As our Commander In Chief is so fond of saying, thank you for your attention to this matter.
